Richard T. Grate, Sr.

Richard T. Grate, Sr., 81, of Bethlehem, passed away Friday, May 25, 2012 in St. Luke’s Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of the late Dorothy M. (Ruth) Grate. Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late Mary Downing. Richard was a cutter and spreader in the garment industry at the former Snyder Manufacturing, Allentown before retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. John’s UCC, Weaversville/Northampton. Survivors: Sons: David M. Mathews in Florida, Andrew M. Grate in South Carolina, Frank P. Grate, Sr. of Allentown, Russell C. Grate, Sr. and his wife Diane of Kutztown; Daughters: Mary A. Eastman in Florida, Patricia M. Lawrence and her husband Kenneth of Walnutport, Helen J. Bonilla and her husband Carlos Diaz of Allentown; Sister: Antoinette Downing of Bethlehem; Grandchildren: 16; Great grandchildren: 18; Great-great grandchildren: 4. Richard was predeceased by three children, Richard T. Grate, Jr., Steven Grate and Debra Grate. Services: 10:30 am Friday, Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 1335-37 Linden St., Allentown.
