Charles “Charlie” Glenn Sherer July 10, 1933 - September 5, 2017

Charles “Charlie” Glenn Sherer, 84, of Allentown passed away peacefully at the St Luke’s Hospice House in Lower Saucon Township following a short, courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. He was the loving husband of D’Loris (Fisher) Sherer to whom he would have been married 64 years this coming Thanksgiving Day. Born in Birmingham, Alabama, July 10, 1933, he was the son of the late James Robert and Ellis (Hollis) Sherer of Birmingham. Charlie faithfully and honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War conflict. Charlie met D’Loris who was serving as a WAVE in the United States Navy while they were both assigned to the National Security Agency and stationed in Washington DC. After his years of military service, Charlie worked as a manufacturing supervisor at the General Electric Co. small housewares division in Allentown for 35 years until his retirement in 1985. Charlie was best known as an avid golfer and spent countless hours working at the Allentown Municipal Golf Course as the Head Starter for over 26 years. He was sometimes referred to as the “Mayor.” His passion for the sport and dedication to the golf course will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. For 28 years Charlie and D’Loris enjoyed spending the winter months in North Myrtle Beach where he loved golfing with his many friends. Charlie also loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was an honorary member of Camp Brady, a hunting camp in Cameron County, PA. He was a life member of the Fairview Fire Company #11 in Allentown as well as a member of Greenleaf Lodge #561 F&A.M, serving many years as their steward and on the golf tournament committee. Charlie loved spending time with his sons, his granddaughters and absolutely cherished his five great-grandchildren.

Our family would like to thank all the compassionate and loving doctors, nurses and caregivers at St Luke’s Hospital Fountain Hill, Moravian Village Healthcare Center and St Luke’s Hospice House who cared for Charlie in the final days of his life. You are all very special people and angels from above who we will never forget!
