Francis A. Salerno MD August 13, 1946 - November 24, 2016

Francis A. Salerno MD, 70, passed away on November 24, 2016. A graduate of St Joseph’s University and Temple Medical School, he completed his internship at Reading Hospital, and served as Chief of Geriatrics at Lehigh Valley Hospital from 1990 until his retirement in 2014. He was the first blind internist certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine, and was named Clinician of the Year by the American Geriatric Society, and Physician of the Year by St Joseph’s University. A most extraordinary son, brother, husband, father, doctor, sailor and friend. His kindness, humor and spirit will live long.

Survivors: He is survived by his wife Aleita, daughters Alison, and Ane Salerno-Mori (Michael), grandson August, brothers Gerard (Carolyn), Christopher (Mary), and Gregory (Carolyn), in-laws Earl & Kathryn Swinehart, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by parents Francis & Margaret, sister Kathleen and brother Mark.
