William F. Reed April 8, 1920 - May 1, 2016

William F. Reed, 96, of Allentown died Sunday, May 1, 2106, in the Phoebe Home, Allentown.  He was the husband of the late Ruth H. (Schrope) Reed. William was born in Schuylkill Haven, PA a son of the late Edward F. and Carrie A. (Rehrer) Reed. He was a graduate of Millersville University Class of 1942, where he received his BS degree in Education. He received his Naval Commission from the Midshipmen’s School at Notre Dame University in 1943 and his Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University in 1950.  William served in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the USS Mount Baker AE-4 in the Atlantic, the Mediterranean and the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lieutenant. William taught for 35 years in the Allentown School District. He taught Industrial Arts at Harrison Morton for 21 years and served as a Guidance Counselor at Trexler Junior High School for 14 years.  William was a member of the Allentown Education Association, PSEA and NEA.  He was a member of the PA and Lehigh County School Retired Employees Association. William was a member Asbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Grace Evangelical Congregational Church, Allentown. He loved to travel with his wife Ruth in the U.S., Europe and Mexico.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling and refinishing furniture.

Survivors:  Son: Edward T. husband of Barbara Reed of Baldwinsville, NY; daughter, Catherine A. wife of Thomas B. May of Salisbury Township; brother, John E. Reed husband of Lemae of Willoughby, OH; granddaughters, Robyn Reed of Palmyra, PA and Erin Mahunik wife of Peter of Homer, NY; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Margaret Mahunik.

Services: 10:30 A.M. Friday in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. now located at 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Call 9:00 – 10:30 A.M. Friday in the funeral home.  Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Allentown.  www.stephensfuneral.com.
