Alan R. Gilbert July 16, 1935 - September 1, 2024

Alan R. Gilbert, 89, formerly of Hanover Township passed into the arms of his Savior on Sunday, September 1, 2024, in the Riverton Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was the husband of the late Ruth B. (Berger) Gilbert. They were married for 62 years. Alan was born in Allentown, a son of the late Ray E. and Annabel L. (Brode) Gilbert. He was a graduate of Fountain Hill High School Class of 1953 and received his B.A. in Business Administration from Muhlenberg College in 1957. Alan was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel Corp. as a data processor and payroll assistant for 25 years before retiring in 1985. Alan was a member of the Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church, Bethlehem, where he faithfully served on the lawn mowing crew and as an usher. He was a proud blood donor for Miller-Keystone Blood Center and a member of the Inter-Church Dart Baseball League. He had a lifelong love of trains and was an avid fan of Muhlenberg College Sports, especially football. Alan loved his family, especially his three grandchildren.

Survivors: Sons, Thomas Gilbert (Sharon) of Allentown, Timothy Gilbert (Lori) of Schnecksville; grandchildren, Daniel Haftl (Michael), Mary Gilbert, Benjamin Gilbert (Erika); brother, Fredric Gilbert (Margaret) of Slatington; sister, Maryann Gilbert (Carol Sverha) of Bethlehem.

Services: A celebration of Alan’s life will be held at 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday, September 10th in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown.  Friends and family may call from 12:30 – 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Military honors will be held in the “Garden” of the funeral home followed by interment in the Cedar Hill Memorial Park, Allentown. www.stephensfuneral.com.
