Alvin C. Thompson, Jr. June 15, 1944 - January 10, 2023

Alvin C. Thompson Jr., 78, of South Whitehall, PA, was called to the loving arms of our Lord on January 10, 2023. Alvin enjoyed a wonderful 13 years of marriage to his beloved Mary. They traveled the world and enjoyed spending time together biking, walking, gardening, and woodworking.

Alvin was born in Wilmington, DE on June 15, 1944. He was a graduate of Wilmington High School and later attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps. His education allowed him the great privilege of caring for the remains of deceased Vietnam War Veterans upon their arrival at Dover Air Force Base.

Alvin took up residency in the City of Allentown in the early 1970’s. His first venture was as owner/operator for a Mr. Donut franchise on Union Blvd. in Allentown. Alvin was always open to new opportunities and following this experience he became a realtor and insurance professional. He was the former owner of Grace Realty and was a long-time member of Century 21 Locher. In 1991, Alvin opened AC Thompson Insurance and Financial Services which continues to serve the insurance and investment needs of clients in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Alvin was previously married to Maxine Brown on 8/13/1977. They enjoyed many happy years together until her passing on 1/28/1992.

Alvin was very active in the community as the former Treasurer & Tax Collector for South Whitehall Township. He also served as a proud member of the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council and Allentown Flag Day Association.

Alvin was an avid athlete and enjoyed competing in countless marathons including the Marine Corps Marathon. He enjoyed biking along the Lehigh River and the many parks within the City of Allentown.

Alvin was a great lover of life and had countless friends. He was an inspiration to many by encouraging others to challenge themselves to not be afraid to try something new and stay physically active. He will be dearly missed.

Alvin was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Devencentis and is survived by his loving wife, Mary (Moyer), his brother-in-law Richard Devencentis of Wilmington, his nephews Richard Devencentis of Wilmington, and Michael Devencentis of Tampa, and his sister-in-law Charmaine (Cookie) Wallitsch of Allentown.

Services will be held at Stephens Funeral Home, 274 N. Krocks Rd. Allentown, PA 18106, on Wednesday, January 18, 2022. Calling hours will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, with a service and military honors to follow.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Military Affairs Council at PO Box 22522, Lehigh Valley, PA 18002.
