Arbutus “Beauty” White-Hargis July 31, 1927 - February 1, 2024
Arbutus “Beauty” White-Hargis, 96, of Allentown, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2024, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Joe Hargis and the late James B. White, Jr. Beauty was born in Nuremberg, PA a daughter of the late Howard E. and Elizabeth A. (Foose) Ulshafer. She was a graduate of the Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1947. Beauty was employed as a nurse in the Philadelphia area for many years. She was an active member of Redemption Lutheran Church, Philadelphia and Nativity Lutheran Church, Allentown, where she was one of the originators of Sister’s in Spirit, a member of the choir, Fellowship Committee, Church Council, and the Special Events Coordinator. Beauty was known to be a fashionista. She loved Jesus, music, art and most importantly her family and friends. She will be remembered as a devout Christian, beloved wife, mother, nanny and aunt. She will be missed beyond words.
Survivors: Husband; daughter, Reverend Cindy L. White of Tamaqua; son, James B. White, III and his wife Annette Cullen-White of New Braunfels, TX; grandchildren, Corinne M. Hutchinson, Codie White, Whitney White, Colin Krieg, Corrine R. and her husband Alec Gerhart; great-grandchild, Oaken White.
Services: A memorial service to celebrate the life of Beauty will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday, April 14th in the Nativity Lutheran Church 4004 West Tilghman Street, Allentown. Friends and family may call from 3:00 – 4:00 P.M. in the church. Entombment will be private at the convenience of the family in the Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.
