Bernard P. “Bernie” Gillen December 31, 1952 - February 19, 2024

Bernard P. “Bernie” Gillen, 71, of Lower Macungie Township, passed away Monday, February 19, 2024, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown. He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” (Heimbach) Gillen. They celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary in May 2023. Born in Fountain Hill, he was a son of the late Bernard Ignatius and Frances Marie (Sweeney) Gillen. Bernie was a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, received his bachelor’s degree in library science from Kutztown University and his master’s degree in media from Temple University. He was a librarian at Whitehall High School for many years before retiring. In addition to being the librarian at Whitehall High School, he was the play director for 5 years. Previously, he was a middle school librarian in New Jersey. Bernie was a member of St. Ann’s Church, Emmaus. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed going to casinos, especially in Las Vegas. Bernie enjoyed traveling with his wife and was on 40 cruises. He had a love for dogs, especially his Shelties.
