Brian John Scanlan May 1, 1961 - October 23, 2023

Brian John Scanlan, 62, of Allentown, passed away unexpectedly on October 23, 2023. The family is deeply saddened to have lost such an adored member of our family. Brian was born in Allentown on May 1, 1961 the second-born son of devoted parents Roger J. and Mary Frances (Dunlevy). Brian graduated from Allentown Central Catholic in 1979. Brian proudly served in the U.S. Navy enlisting in 1979. He was honorably discharged in 1992 as an E-6 Fire room Supervisor. Brian then went on to work as a Powerhouse Operator in several plants in the area, but spent the last 20 years of his career at Merck Pharmaceuticals where he retired in 2021. His work ethic was beyond reproach.
Brian leaves behind a legacy of intellect and generosity. A good day for Brian was when he was travelling with his son and godson Zachary, golfing with his brothers and brothers-in-law, chatting about life with his good friend John Koretski, napping on the couch at the shore, cheering on every Philadelphia sports team, being his granddaughter Sydney’s chauffer to and from school, or taking his 105-lb German Shepherd grand-dog Ranger for a walk around the block. He also cherished the time he spent in Maine with his daughter.
Family who went before
Brian was predeceased by his parents, niece Alexandra Stein, nephew Michael McNamara, sister-in-law Jodi Scanlan, and brother-in-law and friend, Brian Stein.
Family he left behind
Brian is survived by daughter Emily McDorr, son, Nicholas Scanlan, granddaughter Sydney, ex-wife and close friend Kolette Scanlan, sisters Mary Motolese (Dominic), Patricia McNamara (Jon), Kathleen Stein, Brothers Michael Scanlan (Jennifer) and John Scanlan (Michelle). Known as “Uncle B”; to many, he also leaves behind nieces and nephews Elizabeth Motolese (John), Kathryn Motolese (Matt), Casey Scanlan (Andrea), Jack and Patrick McNamara, Brittany Shipman (Corey), Zachary Stein (Angela), Rylee Stein, and Declan and Sullivan Scanlan. A memorial service for Brian will be held Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 1:30 PM with a calling hour held prior to the service from 12-1:30 at Stephens Funeral Home 274 North Krocks Rd. Allentown, Pa 18106.
In lieu of flowers, Brian would want you to do something nice for yourself (or for someone else). Giving a gift was absolutely his love language and he most importantly, would want you to be happy. Order dessert or a bottle of something special. You work hard, you deserve nice things.
