Burton W. Swayze III September 2, 1927 - October 29, 2024
The passing of Burton W. Swayze III, at 97 years old, will be felt by many people in many ways. On October 29, 2024, his family lost their husband, Dad, PopPop, and Uncle Bus. Others lost a friend, neighbor and co-worker. Those who didn’t know him lost a talented photographer, musician, volunteer fire fighter, veteran, and old-fashioned tinkerer.
Being named Chief Photographer of The Morning Call and Evening Chronicle was his proudest career achievement. Playing saxophone in the Marine Band of Allentown for 50 years marked a musical highlight.
Burt was a caring, funny, creative, and hard-working man that loved his family above all. Married for 76 years, he is survived by his wife, Jean M. (Sopper) Swayze. Their three daughters, Linda Yulanavage, of Tamaqua, Eileen Davey (Jim Davey), of Pen Argyl, and Jill Sharkey (John Sharkey, Jr.), of Center Valley, will miss him beyond words. Burton was blessed with four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
