Charles E. “Charlie” Schaffer May 16, 1933 - May 9, 2021

Charles E. “Charlie” Schaffer, Jr., 87, of Coopersburg, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2021 in the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.  He was the husband of his high school sweetheart, the late Jean D. (Stauffer) Schaffer. Charlie  was born in Limeport a son of the late Charles E. Schaffer, Sr., and Emily E. (Laub) Schaffer. He was a graduate of Coopersburg High School Class of 1951 and Moravian College Class of 1955 where he was a member of their baseball and basketball teams. Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was very proud to have served on the U.S.S. Valley Forge. He was a store manager for various Acme markets in the Lehigh Valley for over 37 years before retiring. Charlie was an active member of Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, Center Valley, where he was a member of the cemetery board and the church council where he served as the recording secretary and treasurer for many years. He was an avid sports fan who supported all local sports. Charlie was also an active volunteer with the Limeport Stadium Committee and received the “Fifth President’s Award” for outstanding service to the Limeport Stadium, Inc. in 2004.

Survivors: Son, Keith C. and his wife Gail S. Schaffer of Coopersburg; daughter, Karen L. and her husband Bill E. Bugger of Coopersburg; brothers, Jimmie R. and his wife Jeanne Schaffer of Coopersburg, Gene R. “Iggy” and his wife Joyce Schaffer of Allentown; brother-in-law, Tim Stauffer of Quakertown; step-grandchildren, Michelle, Joel and Michael; step-great grandchildren, Hailee, Ilivia, Julianne, Liam and Joshua; nieces and nephews.

Services: Friends and family may call from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. Thursday in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral service to celebrate Charlie’s life will be held at the convenience of his  family in the Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church, Center Valley.
