Cheri L. Andrews September 30, 1946 - December 5, 2023

Cheri Andrews, 77, of Orefield PA, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 30, 1946, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, to the late Earl Gifford and Ferne Helen (Moorhead) Watters. Cheri, affectionately known as “Mammy,” was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She took immense pride in witnessing the growth and accomplishments of her family. Mammy had a nurturing and caring nature which led her to pursue a career in nursing. She attended Omaha Public School of Practical Nursing after graduating from Westside High School in 1964 where she gained the knowledge and skills to provide compassionate care to those in need. Her 28-year nursing career included time spent at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Urological Associates of Allentown, and multiple home healthcare companies. She was so proud to be granted Physician Extendor privileges at LVH in the Urology Department in 1986. She was the fundraising committee chair for the National Association for Professional Saleswomen, served as Allentown/LV Chamber of Commerce Member Ambassadors Club chairperson where she was nominated for the Athena Award, and served on the Executive Women’s Counsel 1988-1990. Her passion to care for others continued after she hung up her nursing uniform in 1994 to become a caregiver for her grandchildren and her late husband which was by far her favorite job of all. Mammy was a board of director for Westwood Heights Swim Club, past president of Parkland HS Swim Team Booster Club, founded and coached the synchronized swimming program at KBGH Swim Club, and was a PIAA swimming and diving official. She found solace and joy in her hobbies which included competitive swimming, synchronized swimming, gardening, crocheting, sewing, turning homes into Hallmark Christmas movie settings, and attending all of her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. When she wasn’t on the sidelines at a sporting event, concert or musical, she was enjoying one of her favorite shows while indulging in a “stiff” drink (Sprite) and her favorite treat, Josh Early non pareils. She became an avid Phillies fan with Pop and proudly wore Eagles gear on Sundays! Mammy is survived by her loving children, John (Anne) Andrews, of Falcon NC, Joy (Joseph) Augustus, of Schnecksville PA, Mark Andrews, of Orefield PA, and Kim (Jamie) Alackness, of Littleton CO, her adoring grandchildren, Joey (Veronica) Augustus, Jaclyn Augustus, Jordyn Augustus, Jake (Taylor) Augustus, Jason Augustus, Justin Augustus, Bryce and Mckenna Alackness, Elizabeth Andrews, and great grandson, Chase Augustus. Cheri was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Ronald “Pop” Andrews, with whom, along with her parents, have now been reunited in eternal peace. We invite all who knew and loved Cheri to join us as we honor her life at the viewing this Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 11:30 AM, followed by a short service at 12:30 PM, at STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME, INC., located at 274 N. Krocks Rd., Allentown. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions be made to St. Luke’s Hospice in Cheri’s memory. She will be sorely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her but we know her light and love will live on through the legacy and lives of those she touched. May she rest in eternal peace.
