Donald Clyde Yount, Jr. March 22, 1961 - January 25, 2025

Donald Clyde Yount, Jr., 63, of Allentown, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, January 25, 2025, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Goldsboro, NC, on March 22, 1961, Don was the son of the late Don and Sue Yount.

Don was raised in Raleigh, NC, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. It was at UNC that he formed lifelong friendships and met his future wife, Chaun. After working in public accounting, Don returned to UNC to pursue an MBA, where he was honored with the Richard H. Jenrette Fellowship. His career took him to New York, where he started in banking and later transitioned into corporate strategy and finance. Don’s leadership and expertise led him to serve as CEO, CFO, and COO of several venture-backed businesses. He had a special place in his heart for his time at Critical Mention in New York City, and for Activate Venture Partners where he ultimately became a general partner and CFO. Don was recognized with numerous awards, including CFO of the Year by the Northern Virginia Technology Council and Entrepreneurial Advocate of the Year by Pennsylvania’s Ben Franklin Tech Ventures.

While Don was a dedicated businessman, he always viewed work as much more than a job. It was an avenue for personal growth, learning, and most importantly, building relationships. He cherished the bonds he formed with colleagues and clients, always eager to mentor and encourage others throughout his career.

Don had a wide range of interests and hobbies, and his collections reflected his diverse passions—Bibles, guitars, wine, UNC sports memorabilia, and other items of sentimental value. He was a man of deep faith, known for his witty sense of humor and his remarkable ability to memorize movie lines. A talented musician, Don was a gifted vocalist and an accomplished guitarist, pianist, and bassist. He had a unique talent for transforming hymns into jazz tunes on the piano, sharing his musical gifts with every church he attended. He dedicated many years to serving as the choir director and playing in the praise band at First Baptist Church Allentown, where he also served as a deacon and a member of the finance committee.

Above all, Don’s greatest joy came from his family. He was deeply devoted to his wife of 35 years, Chaun, and their two sons, Carter and Dillon. As a proud father, Don enjoyed coaching basketball, attending his sons’ sporting events, and creating lasting memories on family beach and ski trips. He instilled in Carter and Dillon a love for music, sports, Tarheel basketball, movie trivia, Cheerwine, and Carolina barbecue, passing on his passions and values with unwavering love.

Don is survived by his beloved wife, Chaun Neal Yount; his two sons, Carter (Allie) of Ferndale, MI, and Dillon of Pittsburgh, PA; his sister, Vanessa Yount Carroll (Roy); his sister-in-law Karen Neal Lizotte (Guy); four nieces, a nephew, a newborn grand-nephew, and many friends who were considered family.

A service celebrating Don’s life will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1808 North 19th Street, Allentown, PA. A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown, PA and one hour prior to the service on Monday. A memorial service will take place in Greensboro, NC, with interment following on Monday, February 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC.
