Eleanor M. Ketterer August 16, 1917 - March 10, 2018
Eleanor M. Ketterer, 100, of Whitehall, formerly of Coplay, died Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Whitehall Manor. Born August 16, 1917, in Allentown, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Florence M. (Kleckner) Newcomer. She and her husband, Richard O. Ketterer, were married 52 years until his death December 8, 1989. She graduated from Allentown High School in 1934 at the age of 16. Prior to retiring in 1981, she was employed by the Allentown School District for 26 years, first as a baker in the Muhlenberg Elementary School cafeteria and then in the delinquent tax office of the administration building. Eleanor and Dick spent much of their retirement in Seminole FL with many of their friends who also lived there. A member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Allentown, she was a Phillies fan and enjoyed traveling with her husband, working in her garden, reading, crocheting, swimming, and doing crossword puzzles. Survivors: son, William B. Ketterer and wife, Judy, Coplay; daughter, Kathleen M. Sterner, Northampton; grandchildren, Karen L. Korpics and husband, Michael, Nazareth. Karla L. Lyle, Coplay, Kirk W. Ketterer, Coplay, Tamantha K. Yanders and husband, Keith, Allentown, Kimberly A. Ketterer, Whitehall; eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandsons; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by son, Donald R. Ketterer, granddaughter, Jennifer Melton, brother, Howard J. Newcomer, and sisters, Marion Wieder, Evelyn Crowe Shaffer and Irene Kline. Services: 10:30 AM Tuesday at STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 274 N. Krocks Rd. Allentown. Call 9:30 AM until service time. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
