Eric Joseph Cognat - October 15, 2024

Eric Joseph Cognat was called to our Lord’s heavenly Kingdom on October 15, 2024. Born to Dianne Lizzio and Richard Cognat on Staten Island, New York, Eric’s journey continued in the vibrant community of Manalapan, New Jersey, where his spirit shone brightly from a young age.
A natural athlete, Eric earned recognition in the “Who’s Who of Sports” for his talents on the field, which began with Little League baseball and youth basketball. His passion for competition remained strong throughout his life, continuing as he excelled in organized leagues after his family moved to Macungie, Pennsylvania, in 2005. He graduated from Emmaus High School and later attended Lehigh Carbon Community College, all while dedicating himself to work in the hospitality industry and construction.
Eric was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, and Knicks. However, his love for sports was matched only by his deep affection for family and friends. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy and laughter into every room he entered, using his natural sense of humor to brighten even the darkest of days. Eric made it a point to connect with those around him, leaving an indelible impression long after he left.
His curiosity about the world was contagious. Eric shared his thoughts and experiences through several online blogs, inspiring others with his insights and passion for life. He encouraged those who knew him to seek new perspectives and embrace life fully.
Eric is survived by his loving mother, Dianne Lizzio, and her husband, Joe Walsh; his father, Richard Cognat; and his siblings: Richard, Salvatore, and Cara; Victoria and James Greve; Megan, Ryan, and Caitlin Walsh. He also cherished his nephew, Owen Thomas Greve, who held a special place in Eric’s heart.
Though our hearts ache with Eric’s absence, let us remember him not only in our sadness but in the laughter he shared, the passion he exuded, and the love he gave so freely. Eric taught us to embrace life, cherish our loved ones, and find joy in every moment.
As we say goodbye, let us carry forward his spirit of love, curiosity, and humor. May we honor his memory by living our lives fully, just as he had hoped to.
Thank you, Eric, for all the moments we shared. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of joy and love will continue to inspire us every day. Rest in heavenly peace.
