Jane Newman Koch January 22, 1928 - May 7, 2018
Jane Newman Koch, a resident of Kirkland Village Bethlehem, died on Monday, May 7th, 2018 at St. Luke’s Hospice House, in Bethlehem, PA. Her husband was the late H. Thomas Koch Jr, a partner in the former H. Leh & Co department stores. Daughter of the late Dorothy (Albright) Newman and Dr. Philip F. Newman, she was born in Allentown in 1928, and resided there until 2001 when she moved to Kirkland Village.
She was formerly a features writer for the Allentown Morning Call, and was part of their Sunday editorial staff from 1964 until 1988, she also became the newspaper’s travel editor in 1971. She volunteered in fund drives for area charities and for an archives group which compiled a history of Allentown Hospital, a forerunner of Lehigh Valley Hospital.
Mrs. Koch was a member of Jordan Lutheran Church, Orefield. She graduated from Moravian Seminary, Bethlehem, a predecessor of Moravian Academy, and from Stratford College, Danville, VA.
She is survived by three children, Louise R. Koch of Phoenixville PA, T. James Koch, (Kathy) Suttons Bay, MI, and Dr. Henry Koch, Haymarket VA, as well as by a brother, Philip F. Newman of Allentown. She has four grandchildren, Daniel, Hannah, Jane and Madeline, and 7 great-grandchildren. Jane was predeceased by a grandson David.
