Joanne P. Sankowski March 23, 1934 - November 3, 2017

Joanne P. Sankowski, of L. Macungie Twp., passed Friday, November 3, 2017, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown.  She and her husband, Edward H. Sankowski, were married for 32 years.  Born in Hellertown, she was a daughter of the late William and Ada (Ruch) Potts.  A 1952 graduate of Hellertown High School, she was employed as a secretary at various law offices prior to retiring in 1992.  Joanne was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Church, Orefield, a volunteer at Lehigh Center for 15 years, and a member of the YMCA’s “Top of the Hill”.  At the age of 18, she appeared on the Ted Mac Show with the Melodettes and later joined the Sweet Adelines for more than 25 years.  She had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes and knitted many baby blankets for Mary’s Shelter and Care Net.  Survivors: husband; daughter, Bonnie Beier and husband, Thomas A., Fountain Hill; sons, Frederick D. Lewis, Coopersburg, Mark W. Lewis and wife, Kathy Rose, Hellertown; step-daughter, Kimberley Ann O’Brien and husband, Vince, Warrington; sister, Mary Jane Karger and husband, Tom; grandchildren, Jarrett and wife, Katrina, Sean and wife, Olga, Kiara and husband, Jake, Kerry, Collin, Tyler, Drew, Kaleigh; great grandchildren, AJ, Lizzy, Levi, Miabella, Sofia, Matthias, Lenox, Colette; nieces; nephews.  She was preceded in death by brothers, Howard Strohl and Robert, Richard, and William Potts, and sisters, Anita Jacob and Blennie Wall.  Services: Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday in church, 1879 Applewood Dr.  Call 7-8:30 PM Thursday at STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME, INC.  274 N. Krocks Rd. Allentown.  Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown.  Contributions: in lieu of flowers, to Mary’s Shelter Cay Galgon Center, 714 W.
