Julian Hampson “Hap” Skinker August 31, 1928 - January 21, 2021

Julian Hampson (Hap) Skinker (Jr.) died January 21, 2021.  He was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 31,1928. He was a son of the late Julian Hampson Skinker of Warrenton, Virginia, and Evelyn (Burr) Skinker of Dallas, Texas. Hap was the husband of the late Judith Anne (Bell) Skinker of Chester, Virginia. They were married on July 12, 1958.  He graduated from Jefferson High School of Roanoke, Virginia in 1946 and from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) with honors in 1950 where he was a member of the honorary fraternities: Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership), Phi Kappa Phi (Scholarship), Tau Beta Pi (Engineering) and was President of Pi Tau Sigma (Mechanical Engineering). He received an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1959. He worked for Westinghouse Electric Corporation for 35 years in Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New York City and Bloomfield, NJ holding various management positions including General Manager, Specialty Electronic Division; International Department Manager, Lamp Business Unit and Controller, and the Incandescent Lamp Division. His family resided in Ridgewood, NJ for 16 years where he was Treasurer of West Side Presbyterian Church and Scoutmaster of Troop 5 and enjoyed family activities of sailing, hiking, and skiing.  After retirement he and his wife Judy moved to Roanoke, Virginia in 1988 where he was an Elder and Finance Committee Chairman of First Presbyterian Church and was on the Board and Finance Chairman of Habitat for Humanity, and of the Presbyterian Community Center. During retirement he enjoyed playing golf regularly. In 2004 he and Judy moved to the Lehigh Valley, PA to be closer to family. He was a member of Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church and Orchard Hills Church. Hap was active delivering Meals on Wheels until his death.

Survivors: Sons: Benjamin Skinker and his wife Lee of Allentown, Samuel Skinker of Allentown, Lawrence Skinker of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren, Julian (Lexington, KY), Lizz (Knoxville, TN), Capt. Robert (Vicenza, Italy), LTJG Judith (Kailua, HI), Loren (Allentown, PA), Lt. Cole (Silver Springs, MD), Christian (Student at Princeton). He was predeceased by his sister Betsy Barnes.
