Melanie E. Shoup January 8, 1960 - February 24, 2021

Melanie E. Shoup, 61, of Breinigsville passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Lawrence R. “Larry” Shoup.  They would have celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary this May. Melanie was born in Allentown a daughter of the late Richard H. and Evelyn M. (Lichty) Souders. She was a graduate of Parkland High School Class of 1977 and Allentown School of Nursing Class of 1980. Melanie was an Operating Room Nurse for the former Osteopathic Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, Allentown for over 30 years.  She was a member and delegate for AORN. Melanie received the Nursing Excellence Award from St. Luke’s Hospital in 2004. She was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s U.C.C., Trexlertown, where she was a member of the chancel choir, a soprano soloist, founder and inaugural director of the Bell Choir. Melanie played a memorable role in a rendition of Godspell at St. Paul’s. She was also a member of Friends & Faith, Social Life and the Young Women Crafters of the church. Melanie enjoyed crocheting, cross stitching, reading, traveling, cruising with the Encrusiastics, and baking. She enjoyed many bus trips with friends to the Longenberger Headquarters. Melanie was also a member of the Golden Girl Ski Club. She was a Disney aficionado. Her husband and daughter will always treasure the special memories they shared at the “Happiest Place on Earth”.

Survivors: Husband; daughter, Bethany N. Shoup of AZ; siblings, Melinda (Dennis) Love, Jennifer (Tom) Reinert, Cory (Carolyn) Souders, Gregory (Lori) Souders, Mark (Cheryl) Souders, and Rebecca (Steve) Appleby; and numerous lifelong friends.

Services: Friends and family may call from 5:30 – 7:30 P.M. Friday, March 5, at the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Due to the pandemic, services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in St. Paul’s U.C.C. Cemetery, Trexlertown. www.stephensfuneral.com.
