Melba Jane O’Preska August 16, 1924 - December 7, 2024

Melba Jane O’Preska (Moore) was born in Gladewater, Texas, in August 1924.  Her parents were Clarence and Trixie Moore. Jane had three brothers and one sister, all of whom preceded her in death.

She met John O’Preska Sr. in Gladewater while he was stationed at Camp Fannin near Tyler, Texas, during World War II. They married in 1943 and their only son John Jr. was born in 1945.  The family moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and eventually to Longview, Texas where Jane  became the manager of an S & H Green Stamp store. In 1983, Jane and her husband moved to Whitehall, Pennsylvania. Her husband John died in 1986. Jane started working as a receptionist at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown, a job she loved and retained until her mid nineties when Covid sent all volunteers home.

Jane was dauntless and would share her thoughts directly. Conversations with her were often stimulating and filled with her signature, lighthearted laugh.

Jane loved to read and she was an avid gardener. Her front yard was her pride and joy and was admired by many in the neighborhood.

Due to health conditions, Jane moved to Sacred Heart Saucon Valley Senior Living in August 2023 where she passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2024.

Survivors are her son, John O’Preska and his wife Brigitte, of Heidelberg, Germany, her granddaughter Rebekah and her husband Aaron of Cedar Park, Texas, her grandson David of San Antonio, Texas, her two great-granddaughters Adelaide and Thalia; and many friends & neighbors in Whitehall and Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Jane will be cremated and her ashes will be returned to her birthplace in East Texas at a later time.
