Mildred S. Martin January 19, 1934 - July 26, 2021

Mildred Scroggs Martin, a long-time resident of Brevard NC, passed away Monday, July 26, 2021, at Heather Glen Senior Living, Allentown.  She is survived by sons, Tim, Allentown, and wife, Michelle, and grandchildren, Allie and Avery, and Robert, Moneta VA, and wife, Leslie, and grandchildren, Alexandra Martin and Trevor Holder.  Mildred was born in Thomasville NC, on January 19, 1934, to Joseph and Ola Mae Scroggs.  She was preceded in death by brother, Joe, sister, Frances Myers and sister, Ruth Martin, who was also a Brevard resident.  Mildred was valedictorian of Thomasville High School in 1952 and graduated with an associate’s degree from Mars Hill College in 1954.  Mildred went on to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she earned a BA in English in 1956 and began the life-long support of her beloved Tar Heels.  Mildred settled in Brevard in 1963 to raise her family and made a career of teaching English at Brevard High School before retiring in the late 1990s.  She had many cherished friendships through her bridge and garden clubs.  Mildred was a member of St. Timothy’s Methodist Church.  A graveside service will be held on August 9th at 10 am at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory in Pisgah Forest, NC, with Pastor Tony Moreau of St. Timothy’s Methodist Church presiding.
