Philip G. Tivnan June 2, 1953 - November 22, 2023

Philip G. Tivnan, 70, of Breinigsville, PA, formerly of Asbury, N.J., and Drogheda, Ireland, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Twp., PA.  He was the husband of Patricia A. (Marshall) Tivnan. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2024. Born in Monaghan, Ireland, he was a son of the late Gerald and Georgina (Shields) Tivnan. Philip studied in Templemore Garda College, and at UMDNJ.  He had been a member of An Garda Siochana (Irish Policeman) in Ireland for over 30 years, where he served on a Special Protection Unit for former Irish Prime Minister, Charlie Haughey, and on 3 American Presidents as well as Pope John Paul II, on their visits to Ireland. He retired in 2004 and came to America 2 years later.  He spent many years in the Healthcare field, including Visiting Homemakers of NJ, Warren Hospital, where he worked as a Nursing Assistant, Senator Garrett W Hagedorn Psychiatric Hospital in Glen Gardner, NJ, and as a Supervisor in Hunterdon Developmental Center, retiring in 2018. He was a rugby player and a huge fan of the sport, as well as West Bromwich Albion Soccer Club in England, but he was a very proud Irishman! Philip had a vivacious personality, sharp wit, and could light up a room. He loved travel, and having the ‘craic’, but family was Everything to him!!

Survivors: Wife, Patricia; Sons: Marshall P. Tivnan of Breinigsville, Geoffrey J. Tivnan and his wife, Siobhain, of Drogheda, Ireland and their children, Taidgh, Fionn, Boann and Fiadh; Daughter: Jennifer L. Tivnan and her partner Daniel Romig of Bethlehem, and their children, Devin and Elan; Siblings: Collette Boone, Deirdre Mac Sharry, Gregory Tivnan, Albertus Tsang, Cecelia Tivnan and Muriel Tivnan-Johnson; Sisters-in-Law: Cathy Matos and her husband, Carlos, Debi Elliott and her husband Tom, Diane Long and her husband Ken. Philip was predeceased by Brothers-in-Law: Raymond, Edward and Kenneth Marshall.  Step siblings include Jane and husband Bob Wright, Kate and husband Steven Spender, Margaret Jones, Nancy McMorrow and Tom Rudick, and Mike and his wife, Kathleen McMorrow.

Services: There will be a viewing on Friday, December 1, 2023, from 6 – 8 pm and Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 9:00 – 10:30 am, followed by a service at 10:30, all at Stephens Funeral Home, Inc., 274 N. Krocks Road, Allentown. www.stephensfuneral.com.
