Richard A. Miller, Jr. January 4, 1942 - September 24, 2022

Richard Allen “Dick” Miller, 80, of Whitehall, died peacefully September 24, 2022, in the inpatient hospice unit of Lehigh Valley Health Network. He was born in Allentown on January 4, 1942, to Dorothy (Bowen) and Richard Allen Miller, Sr. He was the husband of Karen (Gracely) Miller to whom he was married for over 21 years. Dick and Karen met at the Bank of Pennsylvania in 1986 when he wanted a $30,000 loan to pay the dreaded taxman. Karen gave him the loan AND her heart. Dick graduated from Allentown High School in 1959 and left immediately after graduation to work in his aunt’s and uncle’s restaurant (Schumann’s) in Wildwood NJ. He enjoyed the beach and spent several summers there as a lifeguard along with owning Wildwood Honda Rentals and the Cape House Motel all while establishing himself in the insurance industry. He worked for Fireman’s Fund and Allstate prior to starting his more than 41-year career as a State Farm agent. For over 50 years, each morning was started by going to a diner and meeting with the “breakfast group” to discuss the topics of the day and just have fun. Dick retired in June 2009 as a State Farm agent and took time to travel, ride horses and bicycles and walk. Dick is survived by his current wife, Karen, former wife, MaryAlice (Best) Miller, and their sons, Richard A. Miller III, of Rehoboth Beach DE, and Steven S. Miller, of Las Vegas NV, three grandchildren, Violet Hyland Leitch and her husband, Mark, Owen Hyland Miller and Ruth Hyland Miller. Thanks to the hospice team for their tender loving care, kindness and concern in helping to make Dick’s last days comfortable and pain free. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice. Graveside service will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, 2010 Chew St. Allentown 18104 on Thursday, September 29th, at 10 AM. Deacon Robert Young will officiate. Arrangements entrusted to STEPHENS FUNERAL HOME, INC. Allentown.
