Robert L. Jones June 16, 1938 - April 9, 2018

Robert L. Jones, 79, of Allentown, died April 9, 2018 in the Cedarbrook Nursing Home, Allentown.  Born in Reading, he was a son of the late William R. and Miriam M. (Manderbach) Jones.  He was married for 58 years to Margaret L. (Bauer) Jones.  He was a licensed professional engineer employed by Penn DOT    for 31 years during which he served at various times as District Liaison Engineer, District Location Engineer, District Bridge Engineer, and District Design Services Engineer, retiring in 1993.  He graduated from Reading High School in 1956, from Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute in 1959, and was both a Civil and Sanitary Engineering graduate of Penn State University, earning his bachelor degrees in 1962.  He was a board member and past president of the East Penn Chapter of the American Society of Highway Engineers, the Allentown West Chapter of AARP, and the Allentown Patriots Athletic Association where he also coached youth baseball for 10 years.  He served as a volunteer at the Lehigh Valley Hospital from 1994 to 2015.  Robert was a member of the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church.

Survivors: Wife; son, Jeffrey M. of Allentown; brother, Charles M. husband of Patricia (Wilson) Jones of Reading; sister-in-law Anne M. and her husband Anthony J. Pentz of Emmaus; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents, son, Thomas R.; brother, William M. husband of Marjorie (Bertsch) Jones of Reading; daughter-in-law, Janice A. (Dailey) Jones wife of Jeffrey and an infant brother.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 P.M. Thursday in the Cathedral of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church 1825 West Turner St. Allentown. Call 11:00 – Noon Thursday in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Interment will be in the Resurrection Cemetery, Allentown. www.stephensfuneral.com.
