Virginia O. Schlechter January 4, 1921 - November 26, 2022
Virginia O. Schlechter, 101, passed away Saturday, November 26, 2022, in Phoebe Allentown. She was born January 4, 1921, in Wennersville, PA, a daughter of the late Alfred J. and Quenia R. (Held) Sittler. Virginia attended the South Whitehall School (now Parkland), elementary and high school and graduated in 1938. She was employed as a secretary by the Great American Teachers Agency, an employment bureau for teachers and nurses, for 15 years. Virginia married in January, 1954 to William F. Schlechter and helped work in his printing business for 34 years. They bought an old stone house (circa 1820) in Guthsville in 1978 and moved in while doing restoration work on this lovely old home. Her husband sold the building and closed the printing business at 540 Hamilton St. in Allentown in 1988, and they retired to their home. William passed away in April 1990. Virginia sold her home in 1992 and moved to the Phoebe Terrace. She was a volunteer at the Ecumenical Food Bank for 18 years and her years at the Terrace were spent in volunteering for Meals on Wheels, at Good Shepherd, and the Phoebe Home. Virginia was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for 56 years. In 2011 she transferred to Cedar Lutheran Church, where she had been baptized, confirmed, and married. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, her three sisters, Anna, Ella and Florence, and her two brothers, Peter and William.

Services: 1:30 P.M. Monday, December 5th in the Stephens Funeral Home, Inc. 274 North Krocks Road, Allentown. Call from 1:00 – 1:30 P.M. Monday in the Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Zion Lehigh Cemetery, Alburtis. www.stephensfuneral.com.
