William J. Tabor March 22, 1931 - November 13, 2024
William J. Tabor (Bill) 93, of Macungie, PA passed away at Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus on Wednesday, November 13, 2024. He was born in 1931, the eighth child of the late Frank and Katherine Tabor. Frank and Katherine had immigrated from Poland and built a flourishing life with their eight children in Rockfall, CT. His seven siblings were Julia, Walter, Ann, John, Stacia, Sophia and Josephine. Bill was the husband of Beverly (Boyle) Tabor, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage. They met while attending school in Boston and raised their two children in Murray Hill, NJ, where they mostly called home.
Bill excelled in school in Middletown, CT and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and then his PhD in Physics from Harvard University. After his graduation, he served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army Chemical Corps and then went on to a long, successful career working in research for Bell Laboratories, during which time he acquired multiple patents. Bill was a loving, involved husband and father. He enjoyed staying active by walking to work each day in Murray Hill and, in his spare time, running, swimming, skiing, and playing golf.
Bill is survived by his wife Beverly, daughter Kristin McMahon (Tom), daughter in law Cynthia (Heflin) Tabor, grandchildren David McMahon, Sarah Bergey (Nate), Lauren McMahon, Will Tabor, Robbie Tabor, George Tabor, and great-grandson Brooks Thomas Bergey. He was predeceased by all 7 siblings, as named above, and son, Jeff Tabor.
Bill and Beverly had always felt blessed to have been born into such wonderful families, the Tabor and Waz family on Bill’s side and the Boyles, Harringtons and Smiths on Beverly’s side. This blessing continued when Kristin married Tom McMahon and Jeff married Cynthia Heflin, each coming from a special family. Earlier this year they had the great joy of welcoming their first great grandchild, Brooks Thomas, born to their granddaughter Sarah and Nate Bergey, a joy they share with the special Bergey family. There are too many relatives to mention all of them here, but Bill and Beverly had always thought of each one of them as unique and special.
No services are planned. There will be a private celebration of life with immediate family. Stephens Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
