William W. Torrence, Sr. December 10, 1921 - January 4, 2025

William (Bill) W. Torrence, Sr., 103, of Country Meadows, Allentown, passed away at Lehigh Valley Hospital- Cedar Crest Campus.  Born in 1921, Bill was the son of the late William H. and Ida (Snyder) Torrence.  He was the husband of the late Madeline (Bachman) Torrence, with whom he shared 78 years of marriage until her death in 2019.  Bill was a graduate of Allentown High School, Class of 1939.  He served his country honorably in WWII and was recently interviewed about his experiences during the war for the National Archives. After the service he would go on to open an Amoco gas and service station.  Later, he worked for the Lehigh Valley Post Office as a mechanic before he finally retired.  Bill was a longtime member of Jordan U.C.C., Allentown, PA.  In his spare time, he loved woodworking and spending time with his family.  While at Country Meadows, he made doll houses for “Dream Come True”, a charity that helps ill children.  This work would earn him the 2022 Unsung Hero Award in the Lehigh Valley.

Bill is survived by his children, Daughters: Joanne Leary of Columbus, NJ, Susan C Schrei and her husband William J. of Whitehall, PA; Son: William W. Torrence, Jr. and his wife Nancy of So. Whitehall Twp.; Sister: Burdine Koch of York, PA; Grandchildren: Heather, Beth, Erik and his wife Amy, Keri and her husband Keith, Kimberly and her husband Nick; Great-Grandchildren: Megan, Zachary, Alyssa, Griffen, Kyle, Ryan, Nicholas, Owen, Nathan, Sophie and Mackenzie; Great-Great Grandchildren: Avery and Robin.  He was predeceased by siblings Arthur, Elsie, Paul, Lloyd, Robert, and Victoria.

A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Stephens Funeral Home, 274 N. Krocks Rd. Allentown, PA 18106, at 10:30 AM.  A calling hour will be open from 10-10:30.  Burial with Military Honors will follow at Grandview Cemetery.
